January-April 2010. The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is contributing a display for the World of Fishes exhibit at Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History. A reception for the opening of the exhibit will take place January 30 from 5-7 pm at the Museum and the exhibit will run through April 24, 2010. The exhibit showcases the diversity of fishes from around the world, including displays on fish reproduction, behaviors, habitats and more, in addition to displays of ongoing research on local fishes of the Monterey Bay.

The sanctuary display illustrates examples of fishes found in a variety of habitats within sanctuary boundaries, and includes video footage and interactive features. It also showcases ongoing research projects, such as the Sanctuary Characterization and Image Display (SCID), a collaborative project with California State University Monterey Bay. The camera sled, which records video for the SCID project and regularly travels 200+ meters underwater, will also be on display.

As a complement to the main exhibit, underwater photographs will be on display in the Museum's Vern Yadon Gallery and two lectures have been arranged. Drs. David Greenfield and Greg Caillet, who have organized the exhibit, will be sharing their fish expertise by presenting lectures on February 20 and March 6, respectively. Dr. Greenfield will talk about researching fishes around the world, while Dr. Caillet will present information on fishes and their habitats here in the Monterey Bay. For more information on the World of Fishes read the press release.

The Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History is located at 165 Forest Ave. and is open and free to the public Tuesday through Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call (831) 648-5716 or visit http://www.pgmuseum.org.
